Ruedi Baur, born in 1956, graduated in graphic design from the Zurich School of Applied Arts. He sets up in 1989 Integral concept, now a group of five independent partners studios being able to intervene jointly on any cross-disciplinary project. Intégral Ruedi Baur has been working on 2- and 3-dimensional projects within the different fields of visual communication: identity, orientation and information programs, exhibition design, urban design. Between 1989 and 1994, he coordinates the department of design «information space» of the Beaux-Arts school of Lyon.
In 1995, he becomes professor at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst of Leipzig, at which he was nominated rector from 1997 until 2000. He creates there in 1999 the Interdisciplinary Design Institute (2id). Ruedi Baur is member of Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) since 1992 and member of the
“CAFA Art Research Centre for the Olympic Games” since 2004.
Ruedi Baur is today professor at the Luxun Academy of Shenyang and the Central Academy of Beijing (Cafaa) in China, at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs de Paris (ENSAD) in France and at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (ZHdK) in Switzerland. Since 2004, he is with Vera Kockot and Clemens Bellut in charge of „design2context“, the Design Research Institute of the ZHdK.

The diversification by contextualization
There was a World where differences happened naturally. The lack of information, the difficulties of access, the economic, political, religious and cultural motives automatically constituted profound differences that are the wealth of our world. This time is definitively over.
Neither protectionism and other nationalist aberrations, nor religious reminiscences, nor the preservation of all heritages will contribute to sustain the production of the natural difference in a space in permanent interference.
In this irreparably global World, the difference can only result from a voluntary act: an act of design in some way. But is the term "design" not precisely the expression of this contemporary visual uniformity? What attitude must this discipline implement to escape from the interchangeable solutions to this culture of decontextualization that still characterizes it?
